Police say speed was a factor in a crash that killed two teens in West Hempstead early Thursday.
According to detectives, an 18-year-old female was operating a BMW X3 northbound on Westminster Road in the vicinity of Fairlawn Avenue before striking a parked flatbed truck around 1 a.m.

As a result, the vehicle was overturned and completely crushed on one side. Two passengers in the moving car were ejected from the impact.
A 19-year-old male, and a 17-year-old female suffered severe trauma and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Police say there were several witnesses and they obtained surveillance video from Westminster Florist, which is not far from the scene.
Detectives were outside talking to the owner of the flower store, but the owner declined to speak with News 12.
Officers would not say if alcohol could have been a contributing factor.
Westminster Road had been closed from Hempstead Turnpike to Hempstead Avenue due to the investigation. It has since been reopened.
Police say no charges have been filed at this time.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims.
