Police say a 39-year-old woman was found fatally shot in a high-end Mineola apartment building Saturday morning.
Officers say they were responding to a wellness check at the Allure Mineola on Old Country Road where they found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Building residents said it was shocking to learn that a woman was found dead in the building.
"She was a lovely, lovely woman. She was a sweet soul, and God rest her soul. She would be with us every single day," said neighbor Paul Liggieri.
Residents said the victim was an employee who lived on the fifth floor of the building and was well-known.
Allure Mineola said it is still not releasing the name of the woman who was found dead as it waits to notify her family.
The management company of the building told News 12 Long Island, "We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as the investigation continues."
A resident of the building tells News 12 they received an email from the building stating it was an isolated incident. In addition, the building added a security guard to their lobby in the 48 hours since the murder.
Police would not provide comment and would not share details about the suspect. They're asking anyone with information useful to their investigation to get in touch with them by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
