Police have ruled the death of a 75-year-old woman in the Flatlands as a homicide.
They say they responded to a 911 call for a wellness check just before 12:30 p.m. Monday inside an apartment at 38-57 King Highway.
Officials found Hyacinth Khaleel unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to her arms and legs.
Emergency medical services then responded and pronounced Khaleel dead at the scene.
Investigators are not sure how long she had been there.
According to a neighbor, Khaleel had lived in the building with her son for about 30 years.
"I'd pick up her food or her prescriptions or mail a letter for her or go to the bank for her and she would do the same for me if I didn't feel well," said Robert Calamia.
Other neighbors tell News 12 that Khaleel's son was troubled and would often fight with his mother.
Sources also told News 12 that police are looking to question her son.
