A dog found abandoned in a dumpster was rescued after spending nearly 12 hours in the bitter cold in Old Bridge, according to police.
The little, white furball, who has been nicknamed "Scotty," is now being cared for at the Old Bridge Animal Shelter.
Old Bridge Police Officer Michael Shannon was first on the scene. He said he got a call around 9 a.m. from a maintenance employee for the Glenwood Apartment Complex, who said they found a dog inside a dumpster.
Detective Jessica Nierodzik, also from the Old Bridge Police Department, said they canvased the complex, and through surveillance video from residents, were able to piece together a timeline and estimated that the dog had been dumped around 10 p.m. Monday.
"The surveillance that we did get, we were able to capture the dumpster in the corner and also the surveillance showed the suspect actually carrying the dog towards the destination of the dumpster," said Nierodzik.
That suspect, a 26-year-old from Old Bridge, hasn’t been named yet, but News 12 was told he’s the owner of the dog.
Neighbor Raymond Wilson says he lives in the complex and he's seen him at the dog park.
"We’d see him in the summertime, he’d bring the dog into the dog park, and he would sit there," he says.
The suspect is being charged with animal neglect and animal abandonment.
The 2-year-old Bichon Frise will soon be up for adoption.
