Summer vacation is here and the NYPD is doing its part to get kids out of the house while also keeping them safe.
The Police Athletic League's annual Summer Playstreets is officially underway, closing off local streets so that children can play in a supervised, car-free environment.
There are a total of 40 play streets across the city. The activities run all summer long from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Organizers say the program helps take the worry away from working parents, as well as parents who don't live close to a park.
Participating children also receive a healthy breakfast and lunch, and it's all for free.
