The remains of a 22-year-old man were discovered stuffed into plastic bags and left inside the vestibule of a building on Barnes Avenue, police say.
The superintendent of the apartment building at 2161 Barnes Ave. found the body parts of the victim, identified as John Hopkins Drago. Police say Drago was stabbed in the neck and head before being dismembered. The bags containing the remains were inside a shopping cart.
According to authorities, the victim is a Russian immigrant, who was adopted by a couple from Pleasantville, N.Y. The victim?s relatives say Drago was having trouble adapting to the American culture, so he came to the Bronx and lived on the streets. According to Drago?s relatives, he became a drug addict and a thief.
Investigators are hoping video recordings from the surveillance cameras installed inside the building will help them identify and arrest the person responsible for Drago?s death. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
