A Bronx man fatally shot his pregnant wife and then killed himself at a Walton Avenue apartment Friday morning, police say.
Investigators say 37-year-old Michael Sawyer shot his wife, 30-year-old Imanie Sawyer, in the head at around 7 a.m. He then turned the gun on himself. The incident took place at an apartment that was being used as temporary homeless housing.
Neighbors say they frequently heard the couple fighting and yelling.
?He must have just lost it,? says neighbor Eric Taylor. ?It was just a matter of time for him to snap because people are like that.?
Sources say the husband intended to kill his 15-year-old son, but shot his wife when she tried to protect him. The boy fled and ran across the street to the courthouse.
Neighbors say they want local homeless shelters to conduct more thorough background checks on applicants in order to avoid future dangerous incidents.
Authorities have yet to determine where the couple?s children are currently staying. Also, it remains unknown whether the wife reported instances of domestic abuse in the past.
