A Canarsie High School student was stabbed on the first day of classes Tuesday morning at a subway station just block away from school, police say.
Investigators say the incident happened at Rockaway Parkway and Flatlands Avenue at around 11 a.m. when a large group of students were having a fight.
According to authorities, the 18-year-old victim was stabbed once in the torso by a fellow student in the course of the brawl. He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
Police say the suspect fled the scene along Rockaway Parkway and ducked into the nearest subway station.
Although the stabbing happened off school grounds, students say they were sorry to hear this news on the first day of school. Some students insist, however, that Canarsie High School still remains a good educational institution.
Police continue to search for the suspect. So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
