Police say a car fatally struck a 7-year-old boy and injured his mother in Brooklyn Thursday morning.

Police say a car fatally struck a 7-year-old boy and injured his mother in East New York Thursday morning.
They say the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Blake and Pennsylvania avenues. Police have identified that boy as 7-year-old Payson Lott.
Investigators tell News 12 Lott and his 39-year-old mother were crossing in the crosswalk when a 48-year-old woman identified as Susan Pierrot, behind the wheel of a Jeep and traveling eastbound on Blake Avenue, made a right onto Pennsylvania Avenue and hit both of them in the crosswalk.
Both were transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mother is in stable condition, according to officials.
News 12 is told Pierrot is facing charges including failure to yield to a pedestrian, failure to exercise due care, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. According to police, Pierrot was unlicensed at the time of the incident.
Police say she will be issued a desk appearance ticket.
The Department of Education tells News 12 the boy was a student at P.S. 328. They will have counselors available to those who need it.
