Police say a man in his 20s was struck by a car Thursday while riding an electric scooter in Flatlands.
The incident happened on the street between Avenue N and Kings Highway. Officials say it's the third pedestrian-related accident on Kings Highway.
Police say the driver of the car was a 43-year-old who stayed on the scene.
A 35-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a private garbage truck earlier in the day just a few miles away in Sunset Park. Police say a 16-year-old was killed Wednesday while crossing the street in Pelham Parkway.
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso released a statement saying, "The occurrence of pedestrian injuries caused by vehicles continues to increase every day in our borough. Car crashes and the dangers posed to pedestrians can mostly be prevented if New York City was given home rule by the governor. Home Rule would allow local city officials to enforce safety measures on our streets, making travel by foot and bike safe and accessible. We cannot continue to allow unnecessary deaths on our streets when we have ready solutions to prevent them."
