Police: 1 dead, 4 injured in Melville crash on Long Island Expressway

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling eastbound around 5 a.m. when it left the roadway and crashed into trees and overturned near the Route 110 overpass.

A crash on the Long Island Expressway Monday in Melville left a man dead and four passengers injured, according to police.
Authorities say the vehicle was traveling eastbound around 5 a.m. when it left the roadway and crashed into trees and overturned near the Route 110 overpass.
The driver, 30-year-old Daishun Jones Rains, of Huntington Station, was pronounced dead. Two passengers were seriously injured, and the two others sustained minor injuries.
Eastbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway were closed for six hours during the investigation. They have since reopened.
