Police: Fake Con Edison reps threaten business owners in Bitcoin scam

Police say there are reports across the Bronx of scammers pretending to be Con Edison who are calling business owners and forcing them to make deposits at a Bitcoin machine.
Jessica Guzman, of Silhouette Beauty Lounge in Parkchester, says she received a call on Tuesday from someone posing as a Con Ed representative who threatened to cut the power in her business if she didn’t send $3,000.
Guzman says she wants others to be aware of the scam so no other business owners fall for it.
Police say there have been no arrests yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone that believes they have encountered an imposter caller can report it to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP.
