NYPD officers performing a wellness check at an East Flatbush apartment Wednesday found a woman’s body wrapped in a blanket on the bedroom floor, police say.

Police were doing a wellness check after they say a concerned family member called about her well-being.

When they arrived at the East 18th Street apartment, they found the 56-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive.

Police say Corey Lawrence, 57, the woman’s husband, initially refused to allow officers into the apartment. They say Lawrence became involved in an altercation with the officers and was arrested. He was charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.

The assaulted officer went to the hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening. The medical examiner will determine the cause of the woman’s death.
