There's an increased police presence at two Brighton Beach schools following the nearby shooting of a mother.
Authorities say they're looking for a teenager who allegedly wounded 34-year-old Safia Bibi while she was picking up her son from P.S. 253 on Oceanview Avenue on Wednesday.
School officials say security has been amped up at the elementary school, as well as the nearby William E. Grady High School. The schools are working closely with the NYPD to make sure all students are safe.
According to Bibi, a group of teens had been arguing when someone took out a gun and fired, hitting her in the arm. She believes they attend William E. Grady. Bibi is now recovering from her injury and is expected to be OK.
The suspect is described as a black teen with dreadlocks. He was wearing gray sweats at the time of the shooting. Police are also questioning a group of teens involved in an altercation earlier this week that police believe may be related to this case.
