Police say a gunman has been arrested after stealing an NYPD officer's gun and turning it on him following an apparent lover's quarrel.
According to investigators, the incident happened on Middletown Road at Plymouth Avenue at around 10 a.m. when the suspect fired three shots at the off-duty officer's vehicle as he was driving away.
Witnesses say the officer had pulled out his gun, but an unidentified woman who was also at the scene asked him to put it away. The gun then fell out of a holster, and that is when the suspect picked it up and opened fire.
The off-duty officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries to his hand.
So far, no charges have been filed against the gunman.
