Police are continuing to investigate a deadly shooting that happened early Sunday morning inside a building in East New York.

Officers say they were called to 824 Alabama Ave., near Stanley Avenue, just after 4:10 a.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Jayden Smith with a gunshot wound to the torso. Smith, whose address links him to Canarsie, was taken by EMS to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died.

Police say two other people were also taken to the hospital. Officials confirmed they were not shot, but were hurt while trying to run away from the scene.

Video from the location shows the aftermath inside and outside the building. Personal belongings like shoes, bags and other items were left scattered on the ground, showing how quickly people rushed out when the gunfire started.

Neighbors say the building has been used as an underground music venue, though authorities have not shared details about what may have led to the shooting.

So far, no arrests have been made. Investigators are still working to figure out exactly what happened and how the gun was brought inside the building.
