A Suffolk County Community College custodian was robbed at knifepoint on the Ammerman campus in Selden last night, Suffolk County police and college officials said.
According to investigators, the 29-year-old female victim was cleaning the Norman F. Lechtrecker Building when a male suspect entered, approached her and demanded her wallet and jacket around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Suffolk County police said the woman complied and was not injured while the suspect fled the scene.
A spokesperson for Suffolk County Community College said the school immediately issued a college-wide public safety alert.
"Upon learning of the incident, Suffolk County Community College’s Public Safety team responded rapidly and worked with law enforcement to assist in their efforts to apprehend the suspect," a Suffolk County Community College spokesperson told News 12.
Officers investigated all night and arrested Mitchell Taylor, 32, at his Holtsville home about four miles from campus around 1:00 a.m. today.
Suffolk County police charged him with one count of first degree robbery.
Taylor was being held at the Suffolk County police Sixth Precinct but was taken to a hospital for an undisclosed reason, police said.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's office did not have an update on how the transfer could affect Taylor's arraignment, which had been scheduled for today.
