Police: Mahopac man sexually assaulted woman on Putnam Trailway

Carmel police say shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, someone told them about a possible assault on the Putnam Trailway near Weber Hill Road in Mahopac.

A Mahopac man is behind bars, accused of sexually assaulting a woman.
Carmel police say shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, someone told them about a possible assault on the Putnam Trailway near Weber Hill Road in Mahopac.
Officers say they found the suspect, 49-year-old Neftali Caal-Chocoj, trying to get away on a bicycle.
Police say an investigation found Caal-Chocoj had sexually assaulted a woman near the trail.
Officers arrested him and charged him with second-degree rape.
His bail is set at $200,000 and he's in Putnam County Jail.
Police say it's thanks to fast action from witnesses that officers were able to quickly arrest him.
