Police have charged a Bronx man with dealing painkillers on the black market.
Authorities say that Jose Garcia was heading to New England with thousands of dollars worth of illegal prescription drugs when police arrested him. They say he was making about $24 million a year trafficking illegal pills.
Detectives say Acosta would get the prescription pills from so-called "bundlers," who operate in certain upper Manhattan and Bronx neighborhoods. Authorities say he made at least two trips to Massachusetts per week and sold up to $5,000 in pills each time.
Police say Acosta dealt in highly addictive painkillers and hid them in a hidden compartment in his car's back seat.
Two other men in Acosta's car were arrested. A 5-year-old boy was also in the car, police say.
They are being held on $250,000 bail each.
