Police say a man died Tuesday night after being shot at the Borough Hall subway station.
The shooting occurred at around 7 p.m.
Officials say the 29-year-old victim was shot in the torso on the mezzanine level of the station. A witness says they heard three loud bangs.
The victim died after being taken to Brookdale Hospital.
According to published reports, a retired corrections officer shot the man. An MTA official, however, says one person was taken into custody by police for questioning, while an NYPD spokesperson says no one is currently being questioned, nor were any arrests made in the shooting.
The 4 and 5 trains were bypassing the station in both directions while the initial investigation was going on, but service was later restored.
It is unclear at this time what led to the shooting. Police say their investigation is ongoing.
