Residents say they have complained about frequent speeding and double parking, narrowing the view for cars in the area.
Bushwick resident Andy Chang told News 12 he was a victim in a hit-and-run on his motorcycle just one block over on Dekalb and St. Nicholas avenues.
"I was on my motorbike, the driver didn't see me he turned right into me, I broke my leg I was on a walker, crutches, and we never caught him because he had out of state plates that did not match the car," he said." I'm very concerned with the behavior I see from drivers in this neighborhood."
He says that he and other residents have been pushing for a stop sign or protected pedestrian crossing at Hart and Wykoff for those walking into the Key Foods grocery store.
"I reached out to DOT , and they said they did a study and determined it was not needed, but we see so much double parking and speeding, that is where people are going and its dangerous right now," he added.
News 12 has reached out DOT for comment and received the following statement:
"This was a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones. We are reviewing the details of the crash and the location for safety upgrades."
No traffic incidents are listed for the area, according to the NYC DOT Vision Zero Map.
