Dozens of police officers were called to break up a massive part in New Jersey with hundreds of people in attendance.
The party was advertised on Instagram as a “mansion party” and was held at a home on Mill Pond Road in the Whispering Hills section of Jackson Township Sunday night. The party was reportedly held as a celebration of Liberian Independence Day and featured free food and alcohol and a twerking contest.
“I looked out the front door and all I saw was droves and droves of cars just coming down, and packs of kids, young adults, walking all along our sidewalk and going all over,” says neighbor Karen Levine.
Jackson Township police say that more than 700 people came to the party. Neighbors say that the party guests even taunted police when they arrived to break it up, trespassed on their properties, jumped on cars and other disruptive acts.
Property records indicate that the owner of the home, Yaakov Weiss, purchased it last week. It was advertised on Airbnb for $824 per night and billed as a “stunning 3,700 square foot home” with room for eight guests.
Police issued Weis a summons, along with party organizers Patience Guanue and Alicia Hinneh, for violating New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive orders on large gatherings.
Police say that none of the attendees were cited or arrested.
Gov. Murphy commented on the party and said that New Jersey residents need to do better when it comes to following the social distancing rules.
