Several investigations in New York City are underway after shots were fired by police in three separate incidents with one of them turning fatal, according to the NYPD.
Two officers responded to
an active burglary call at 330 Lewis Ave. Thursday afternoon. The caller stated that their elderly uncle was inside the apartment saying that someone was trying to break in. A 78-year-old man inside of the apartment opened the door partially while displaying a firearm in his left hand, police say.
Officers retreated into the hallway of the building, and authorities say the man walked out and pointed the firearm at the two officers. They fired at the 78-year-old man several times. Despite providing emergency medical attention, they were unable to save him.
Hours later just before 4 p.m.
in Queens, officers shot a man who they say stabbed a church security guard at 189 161st St. A knife was recovered after officers shot the suspect. Police say that same man waved the knife at officers then was shot and brought to a hospital.
The stabbing victim is expected to survive.
In the Bronx
, another man was shot just before 8 p.m. near the 1 train at 238 street and Broadway after police say they received reports of a man acting out and waving a gun in front of a crowd with children in it. Video taken by a restaurant employee shows a man walking on the tracks with a gun raised.
Police called for him to put the gun down multiple times, and that's when police shot the suspect in the hand causing him to drop the gun. Police say they were able to handcuff and walk him off the platform. Police later found the gun the man was waving around was an imitation gun.
The identities of three men have not been released yet.
