Police: Officer struck by car, shots fired during traffic stop in East New York

Officers say the driver decided to take off, striking one of them in the ankle.

Authorities say an officer was injured overnight while attempting to carry out a traffic stop in East New York.

According to police, two officers were at at Hegeman and Van Siclen avenues attempting the traffic stop at 12:45 a.m. They say the driver decided to take off, striking one of the officers in the ankle.

Police say shots were fired, but it is unclear if the officers or the suspect fired them.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
