New signs are going up around Bedford-Stuyvesant public schools to show drug dealers and users they are not wanted there.
The 81st Precinct posted the first drug-free school zone signs Wednesday at Public School 262. Parents made police aware of the problem with drug dealers hanging around the school at a community meeting. Authorities hope the signs will remind people that penalties double for anyone who is convicted of doing or selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. Police made 23 drug-related arrests in the area last week.
Many parents say they feel safer sending their children to school now.
