One week after 11-year-old Khyara Tay was shot and killed in Longwood, police have made a second arrest in the fatal shooting incident.
Omar Bojang, 18, reportedly turned himself in Monday. It comes exactly seven days Tay was struck and killed by a stray bullet.
Bojang was taken out of the 41st Precinct by officers a few hours after reportedly turning himself in. Police allege that Bojang was the driver of the moped that carried Matthew Godwin, the alleged shooter of 11-year-old Khyana Tay.
Police say that the intended target of the gunshot was a 13-year-old.
In Parkchester, a portion of a funeral home was gated off for the family and friends of Khyana Tay so they could pay their respects in privacy. Media was not allowed inside, but police commissioner Keechant Sewell and Mayor Eric Adams were in attendance.
The wake for Khyara Tay will continue Tuesday.
Bojang has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
