Police say 36-year-old Shaun West was shot and killed inside his Williamsburg apartment during an attempted robbery last night. 
Police say West was inside the Taylor-Wythe housing apartment he shared with his girlfriend and their toddler when two men with guns pushed open the door, demanded cash and shot him in the head, killing him.
The victim's mother Claudia West says her son worked in construction and had two children, a 9-year-old who lives on Long Island and a toddler who lives in Williamsburg.
 Family and friends of West say the victim had a troubled past, but had turned his life around.
Police say they are looking into whether the shooting was gang-related. 
They say they are searching for two suspects. both black men, one heavyset and the other wearing a gray hoodie. Police say both men were carrying guns.
