Police say a man was followed by men wearing ski masks near Crown Street in Crown Heights when one of them grabbed his jacket and told him to empty his pockets.
The man then chased him into the middle of the street.
News 12 obtained video of the incident.
Founder of Jewish Future Alliance Rabbi Yaacov Behrman says he wants to see incidents like this stop.
"The city is not getting safer. We all share the same values. Many of us want the same things, we want to raise our families in peace and in health. I hope the cops do their job, catch him and that there are serious consequences," said Rabbi Yaacov.
A mother who wanted to remain anonymous echoed that sentiment on safety.
"It's really petrifying. I'm not out at that time, but I have kids in their 20s out at that time. It's really nerve-wrecking to think this could happen to someone in an area that's supposedly safe," she said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call police.
