Police are asking for the public's help finding the suspect who robbed an elderly woman and knocked her to the ground last week in Sunset Park.
Investigators say the incident happened around 7 a.m. last Monday. A 79-year-old woman was robbed and ended up on the sidewalk.
According to police, the victim was walking between Fourth and Fifth avenues when an unidentified man approached her from behind and snatched her bag, causing her to fall and hit her head.
Deli manager Ahmed Suliman says police are reviewing surveillance footage from his shop, which shows the suspect moments before the attack. Police have released one of those surveillance images of the man, who is described as a 40- to 50-year-old Hispanic man with a light complexion.
He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, dark jeans and sneakers.
The man fled the scene of the robbery. The woman was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for an evaluation.
One resident says the incident will make him more aware of his surroundings when traveling to and from work.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
