One suspect is dead and another is still at large after an armed home invasion in Bensonhurst.
It happened inside a home on 78th Street near Stillwell Avenue Monday.
Police say two officers responded to an armed home invasion in a third-floor apartment at around 6:30 p.m.
According to police, they saw a man running upstairs toward the third floor. They say he pushed an AC from the window, jumped out and scaled down the fire escape, hopped a fence and bumped into police backup on the other side.
Police say the suspect pointed a gun at a sergeant. That sergeant along with another officer shot at the suspect, hitting him twice. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators are still searching for a second suspect, who they believe was wearing a yellow hard hat.
Seven adults and an infant inside the home at the time were not hurt.
Police are urging anyone with information about the second suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
