Fairfield police are warning residents about a scam text message claiming to be from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

The message claims a person has outstanding traffic tickets and urges them to click a link to immediately pay online.

Officers say it's a scam and not to click the link.

The CT DMV says it does not notify residents of tickets or penalties via text or email with embedded payment links.

DMV correspondence is sent by mail, the agency says.

Police say you can contact the DMV directly to verify the status of your license or registration.
