Police say a woman was fatally struck by an SUV Sunday night in Bay Ridge.

The crash took place at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Senator Street at around 9 p.m.

Investigators say the 61-year-old woman was crossing 4th Avenue when a driver in an SUV heading north on Senator Street struck her. She was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries.

Neighbors told News 12 that the intersection is known for being dangerous.

"When they have the chance, they step on the gas for sure and usually especially at night is when it gets more dangerous for pedestrians to cross the street," said resident J.C. Bravo. "You have to be very careful."

The driver stayed at the scene. It's unclear if they are facing charges. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
