A political expert says there could be serious consequences for the source of the Supreme Court leak over Roe v. Wade as Chief Justice John Roberts’ launches a probe.
Dr. Lynn Eckert, a professor of political science at Marist College, says while the leak is not technically illegal, it could still mean trouble for the source if they are found.
"Leaking a draft opinion from the Supreme Court doesn't violate any laws. So, this won't be a criminal inquiry. Nonetheless, that doesn't mean there wouldn't necessarily be punishments associated with finding out who the leaker is,” Eckert says. “This could potentially be career ending for the person who did it, if we find the source of the leak."
