The majority of New Yorkers says the NYPD has been effective in fighting the war on terror at home, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

More than 82 percent of the 964 people polled said they feel that police are doing their jobs well when working to capture terrorist suspects.

In recent weeks, the NYPD has drawn criticism for monitoring Muslim neighborhoods, businesses and mosques using surveillance video and undercover agents. Yet, when asked about police officers' treatment of Muslims, 58 percent said the NYPD was acting fairly, while 29 percent of responders believe Muslims were targeted without reason.

The poll points out that more than 63 percent of those surveyed, of whom 252 were from Brooklyn, approved of the way police officers were doing their jobs in the five boroughs.
