Elected officials are calling for the resignation of state Assemblyman Vito Lopez (D-District 53) amid allegations he sexually harassed two staffers. Sen. Chuck Schumer and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn have urged his stepping down, as has Gov. Andrew Cuomo. As part of the assembly's ethics committee investigation, Lopez will also no longer be chairman of the housing committee and has been stripped of his seniority. Even residents in his district say Lopez is not the right person to represent their community. Lopez has led the Brooklyn Democratic Party since 2005. His office has yet to release a statement.
