A state commission will soon decide whether or not to close hospitals and nursing homes in Brooklyn, which opponents say may result in the loss of as many as 1,000 hospital beds.
The commission will make a decision on closings by December 1. It says hospitals are going bankrupt because patients cannot afford to pay for the facilities.
Opponents say without these facilties, a major health care crisis will occur in Brooklyn. They say legislators must take a stand against the plan to downsize, as hospital beds could begin to be lost as early as next year.
