Police say a 48-year-old postal worker was assaulted as he delivered mail in Crown Heights.

The incident happened near Bedford Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Investigators say the 48-year-old postal worker was delivering mail when a man approached him demanding a package in his hand.

The man then slashed the postal worker in the face with an unknown item before fleeing into a nearby building.

“He has 29 stitches in his face," said John Cruz, President of Brooklyn Letter Carriers Branch 41.

Cruz added, “What’s happening now…has never happened to us.”
