A pothole large enough to stand in is causing issues on East 161st street. And there are dozens more scattered along the corridor.

The city is planning a "Pothole Blitz" this week to fill in the craters across the five boroughs. Meanwhile, residents are urging that the holes be filled along the East 161st Street corridor.

Chris Corbett says his friend rode his scooter into a pothole.

"He hit that pothole and he went up in the air and came down and broke his leg in three places," Corbett said. "It's crazy."

Gloria Anderson has lived in this neighborhood for 30 years. She describes what it's like as she crosses 161st Street with her walker.

"My back, my body, everything hurts me, I'm just in pain right now cause these potholes," Anderson says.

Resident Bruce Phillips says he is taking matters into his own hands.

"They are treacherous, I had to call 311," he says.

Drivers also say they are worried about what damage this could do. One driver tells News 12 he's worried the potholes could damage.

"The whole front end, the shocks, the struts, everything," that resident says.

The DOT later told News 12 that repairs were made in the location and provided the following photos.

The city's Department of Transportation is urging New Yorkers to report potholes to 311 or by visiting nyc.gov/fixmypothole.
