Former Rep. George Santos, who was expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives late last year, plans to run again.

This week, he will be on News 12's "Power & Politics" in an exclusive interview on why he's launching another campaign and how he can convince voters he's changed.

After previously saying he would not seek elective office, the federally indicted former congressman said he had a change of heart.

Santos, who became the sixth member of Congress ever expelled from the House, is also facing federal charges of allegedly defrauding donors to his 2022 campaign.

He previously admitted that he lied about his job experience and college education during his previous campaign.

Despite those challenges, Santos announced his campaign to challenge Republican Long Island Rep. Nick Lalota, who represents New York's 1st District.

Santos previously represented New York's 3rd district.

Lalota responded to the challenge saying, "I led the charge to expel George Santos. If finishing the job requires beating him in a primary, count me in."

News 12's Rich Barrabi sat down with Santos as he prepares to re-enter the political sphere.

"It's a matter of transparency, right? I think if I run a campaign of pure and honest transparency, it's the only way that I'm going to be able to gain the voters' trust back," Santos said.

A judge has tentatively scheduled Santos' trial for September - three months after the primary but ahead of the November general election, if Santos were to get that far.
