The coffin of 27-year-old Amadou Diallo was carried into a packed mosque in Crown Heights on Friday, as family, friends, and community members gathered to mourn a life cut short.
Diallo was one of three men killed in a mass shooting at the Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights early Sunday morning. He worked as an Uber Eats driver and was caught in the crossfire.
“He always made me happy…I don’t know how I can live without him,” his brother said.
His older brother, who asked to stay anonymous for safety reasons, said Diallo had aspired to work in health care.
“My brother was a cheerful person who likes to help others, who was always at the service of others. He is someone who has always supported me. He is more than a brother to me… he is my confidant, my advisor,” he added.
The brother said he had shared a cup of tea and prayed with Diallo on Saturday before both headed to work, only to return home to find his brother missing.
Amadou was one of five siblings, and his elderly parents remain in Guinea.
Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and a representative from Mayor Eric Adams’ office attended the service.
Amadou’s family plans to return his body to Guinea over the weekend so he can be laid to rest alongside his parents.
