In an effort to combat gun violence on the streets, President Joe Biden will be addressing the nationwide effort today while Mayor Eric Adams breaks down what is being done in New York City.

President Biden will be talking about the nationwide effort in his own address as part of his new Safer America plan that will require $37 billion to support the police and prevent crimes -- $12.817 billion is said to fund the police with the resources they need for effective, accountable community policing. This investment will allow the recruitment, training and support for 100,000 officers.

Seven-hundred million dollars will be allocated to crime prevention and a fairer criminal justice system. This will help states and cities advance prevention strategies and invest in mental health, substance use disorder, homelessness and other services to prevent crime.

One point seven billion dollars will be invested in discretionary funding for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to enforce common sense gun laws. This funding will be used to take additional common sense steps to keep guns out of dangerous hands.

Most of this money is going into law enforcement when President Biden announced his plan back in July.

It's unclear what Mayor Adams has in his plans to combat gun violence, but News 12 will keep you updated once we learn more.

The NYPD says it has already confiscated more than 3,700 guns off of NYC streets.
