President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with the media Tuesday to discuss his administration's progress in fighting the pandemic and its work to increasing vaccinations.
There's a lot of movement on the COVID-19 front as the delta variant continues to spread throughout the country and New York City. Despite that fact, there are still several New Yorkers questioning whether they should get the vaccine.
On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced all MTA and Port Authority employees must either get vaccinated or get tested weekly by Labor Day. The governor made several suggestions saying educators in public schools in high-risk communities should mandate weekly testing and vaccines. He also thinks private businesses should incentivize vaccination by only allowing vaccinated people into their business
Mayor Bill de Blasio also made an announcement saying every new city employee hired by the city must show proof of vaccination. He's also hoping the 25% of unvaccinated New York adults also heed his warnings and take precautions.
"So, we thought the right mix was to heavily focus on vaccination rates, to continue to climb the ladder with more and more vaccine requirements in place and to give a very clear message to all New Yorkers encouraging mask usage regards vaccine status," Mayor de Blasio said.
Neither the governor nor the mayor is mandating masks at this time but encouraging them. The meeting the president is having with the media is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
