Some commercial streets in Borough Park will have a few extra brooms keeping it clean this year thanks to a unique program called Project Sweep.
The nonprofit Midwood Development Core is bringing Project Sweep to 18th, 13th and 16th avenues.
Project Sweep started in 1989 as a way to employ people with developmental disabilities, but today the group also integrates workers who don't have disabilities.
New York state Sen. Simcha Felder helped secure the $100,000 grant that will fund Project Sweep through September. Thanks to the grant, Project Sweep was able to employ nine people who will be at Borough Park Monday through Friday helping to keep the commercial strips clean.
Sen. Felder says people from Project Sweep will have jobs, feel productive and help make the neighborhood a beautiful place.
