Linden Plaza is home to 3,000 people who may have to shell out more rent money for improvements. Tenants say improvements should have been made years ago.
Developers at Linden Plaza say a rent increase of over 200 percent may be necessary in order to improve the complex. The proposed construction would focus on the roof, ceiling, lighting and improving a subway station located in the building.
Tenants say that the rent hike is being increased too much, too fast. They claim they have asked for minor repairs in the past but received little or no responses.
Councilmen Charles Barren met with the tenant association president and they are looking into alternative ways to pay for the improvements.
The developers said that some residents would receive a voucher for paying the rent increase.
