Police say Friday that they still have not made a decision about placing a permanent crossing guard in front of P.S. 1 despite a young boy's death.
Six-year-old Andry Vega was struck and killed by a truck while crossing 3rd Avenue last week. Following the accident, a temporary crossing guard was stationed at the location. Still, parents feel the accident could have been avoided if there was a permanent crossing guard. Parents say 3rd Avenue is a seven-lane street with heavy truck traffic.
Police say they are continuing to study the intersection in order to make a decision about whether a guard is needed.
