Dozens of Coney Island children will now have access to health care without having to leave school.
Starting next week, construction will begin on a new health and vision center at P.S. 188.
The $2 million project is not only for the children at P.S. 188, but also for children at neighboring schools. Lutheran Family Health Centers, SUNY College of Optometry and the nonprofit group OneSight will run the clinic.
The goal of the center is to provide a one-stop place where kids can get attention for their health care needs.
The project is part of the United Federation of Teachers' Community Learning Schools Initiative, which places important services needed by the community in schools.
The construction is expected to be complete in September.
