Pooch-loving Instagram users are no doubt familiar with the Dogist, the photographer who snaps shots of dogs all over the Big Apple and beyond.
The photos are taken by Elias Weiss Friedman and his Instagram account now has more than 1.8 million followers. Each day he posts new photos of different dogs walking the streets of the big city, from brawny Rottweilers to dainty Brussels griffons.
News 12's Crystal Walker caught up with Friedman in Prospect Park to see firsthand what tricks he uses to get pups to pose so perfectly. He's mastered the art of capturing a dog's attention by using sounds or a ball.
Friedman didn't always photograph poodles and pugs for a living. He picked it up after he was fired from an office job. "I just started photographing dogs two years ago and I haven't stopped doing it, and it's gotten a lot of traction and I feel like this is my calling," he says.
Friedman recently published a book of his photos and it ended up on the New York Times Best Sellers list. He's also helping the community by featuring some dogs who need to find homes on his Instagram account.
"All of them that I've featured have found a home and I don't know whether it's directly because of me or the post I made, but I'm helping I think in a real way," Friedman says.
