The Jewish holiday of Purim begins Thursday night and ends Friday evening, but due to the coronavirus, the joyous occasion is scaled back this year.
The Bronx Jewish Center is still finding a way to celebrate safely. Rabbi Saadia Pewzner says last year approximately 160 to 170 people celebrated the occasion.
This year, he says about a quarter of those people gathered on Thursday. He says they’ve taken many precautions, even though it doesn’t look like a typical Purim celebration.
"We make sure everything’s disposable, disposable tablecloth and everything’s in their personal corner,” said Pewzner.
Pewzner says they plan on having another small event at the center on Friday night.
