Queens-bound BQE from Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street to be closed this weekend

The closure comes as the DOT is repairing 1.5 miles of the deteriorating roadway.

A big portion of the Queens-bound BQE will be shut down this weekend.

The closure begins at Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The road will be closed starting at 2 a.m. Saturday and is expected to end at 4 a.m. Monday.

All weekend long, Staten Island-bound lanes will be open.

Department of Transportation officials warn drivers to avoid the expressway this weekend as there will be delays. They say detours will be clearly marked, but do expect lots of congestion in the area.

The closure comes as the DOT is repairing 1.5 miles of the deteriorating roadway.

The BQE is set to shut down again one final time for this major project on June 1.
