The R train is running on empty and doing a disservice to Bay Ridge commuters, according to a City Council member.
Councilman Vincent Gentile (D-Bay Ridge) complains the R train, which is the only train that runs through Bay Ridge, is consistently unreliable. Gentile says the 59th Street station is the last stop during rush hour. Straphangers are forced to wait for a separate shuttle to take them to the last stop on the line, the 95th Street station. Gentile also argues the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) fails to notify riders of major service interruptions that cause delays of up to 20 minutes. Gentile sent a complaint letter to transit officials on February 7, but got no reply.
A spokesperson for the MTA tells News 12 Brooklyn the letter must go through the proper channels before the agency can address Gentile's concerns.
